Sunburst StratocastersSunburst stratocasters have been popular right through the strat's history, despite the many and varied colours and finishes which have been available over the years. The term sunburst refers to the colour of the finish of the guitar, originally intended to look like an old French polished finish, where the most used areas are worn to the extent that the original colour can no longer be seen, and the worn parts are right through to the wood, with progressively more colour being seen towards the less worn areas. Many other guitars have been available in sunburst finishes, and there are many fine examples of Gibson and other makes. Sunburst strats are still available in a variety of colours, as well as the Squier strat.
