Fender Stratocaster Guitars
Fender Stratocaster guitars were introduced in 1954 and have probably been the most loved guitars in the world ever since. The design was revolutionary, a contoured body with bevelled edges made it very comfortable to hold and play, and the double cutaway design made reaching the higher notes of the fretboard easier.
There were three single coil pick-ups, neck, middle and bridge, instead of the usual two, giving a greater range of sounds, and the five way selector switch can be set between two pick-ups, extending the choice to neck/middle and middle/bridge.
A major advance was the standard fitting of a floating bridge with a vibrato, or tremelo, unit built in. This added the dimension of bending and vibrato effects to the picking hand, as well as the fretting hand, with endless possibilities, which have since been fully explored, making this one of the most versatile instruments ever made.
