Fender Electric Guitars

Fender electric guitars are without doubt the best known guitars in the world, and probably have been for the past half century or so. As well as the Fender brand, Fender Musical Instruments Corporation also produce guitars under the names Squier, Guild, Gretsch, Jackson, Charvel, SWR, Tacoma, Olympia and Brand X. They are now based in Scottsdale, Arizona, USA, with production in Corona, California and in Mexico and the Far East.

Leo Fender started designing and making guitars in the 1940s, with his first major success being the Telecaster, which was introduced in 1948. It was first called the Broadcaster, but the name was soon changed to avoid confusion with a Gretsch product. Most famous of all was the Stratocaster, introduced in 1954. Both designs remain almost unchanged to this day.

There were several other popular models, for different styles of music and application, inclluding the Musicmaster, Jazzmaster, Jaguar, 12 string, Mustang, Starcaster and Lead 1. They also made a range of bass guitars, the Precision bass, Jazz bass and Telecaster bass, and later a range of amplifiers and other accessories.

Fender guitars have been played by most of the famous guitarists over the past fifty years or so, among the most notable being Jimi Henrix and Eric Clapton.
