Electric Guitar KitsElectric guitar kits, or packages are a great way to get someone started. Prices are very cheap, and you can't really expect an American Stratocaster to be included in the price. What you will get, though, is a cheap far eastern copy of a strat, usually of quite reasonable quality, and certainly perfectly adequate for the beginner to learn the basics and practice until they need to progress to a better model, as we all do. The really cheap kits are unbranded or have a name you have never heard of, but if you want to pay a little bit more for quality, look for the Squier models, which are made for Fender in the far east and are of quite acceptable quality for beginner and intermediate use. What is in the package varies, although you will always get a guitar, which invariably looks, at least, like a strat, you will get a cheap amplifier, which will sound better on lower volumes, pleasing mum and dad, but will probably show quite a bit of distortion if played up full. Some form of tutor book and computer software is often included, perhaps a light carry bag, and maybe a pick or two or a spare set of strings. One way you may be able to make a big improvement to the sound is to put a decent set of strings on and keep the originals for spares, as the factory fitted strings are very basic. Now, who needs one, your son, daughter, mum, dad, boyfriend, girlfriend, or how about yourself?
